A network interruption is heavily affecting AT&T customers in the U.S., Thursday. Most of the issues were reported in Houston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, according to the website.
Around 4 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, more than 32,000 AT&T customers reported that their service wasn’t working. The number of reports went down for a little while, but then went back up to over 50,000 around 7 a.m.
The company told ABC News that there was a problem with their service. They also recommended that their customers use Wi-Fi to make phone calls instead.
An AT&T spokesperson said:
“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them. We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored”.
On Thursday morning, AT&T gave an update that 75% of their network was fixed and working again.
“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. Our network teams took immediate action and so far three-quarters of our network has been restored. We are working as quickly as possible to restore service to remaining customers,” the company said.
Emergency officials in Prince William County, Virginia said that the AT&T service outages had caused “a disruption in receiving 911 calls,” according to the Prince Williams Times. Also, police in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area in North Carolina said that customers were “briefly unable to contact 9-1-1. There are no disruptions to our call center’s ability to receive 9-1-1 calls. Service should be returning shortly.”
According to AT&T’s website, they provide mobile and broadband services to more than 100 million customers.
